We are so excited to be able to offer Swedish Flower Hens! The Swedish Flower Hen, or Skånsk Blommehöna, is an endangered landrace breed from Sweden. One of my favorite things about these birds is their friendly temperament and the beautiful variety of colors they come in, each accented with distinctive white-tipped feathers. Being from Sweden myself, I feel a strong connection to this breed and a personal desire to help preserve it. Our line of Swedish Flower Hens comes from Christi Boyle in Forest City, North Carolina. She has spent years working on her line, and we are so excited to now be offering them too. If you are interested in breeding our birds, we ask that you use a second blood line as we don’t sell breeding pairs, yet :)

History of the Swedish Flower Hen: The Blommehöna is a traditional farmyard breed originating from southern Sweden, specifically the Skåne region. By the 1970s, it had nearly vanished, but conservation efforts began after three small surviving flocks were found in the villages of Esarp, Tofta, and Vomb, all located in Skåne. A breeders' association, the Svenska Lanthönsklubben, was later established to support its recovery. In 2014, a total population of 1,592 birds was reported to the FAO’s DAD-IS database. In 2010, fifteen Swedish Flower Hens were exported to the United States, helping the breed gain international recognition.

Occasionally, a breed may not hatch as well as expected. When placing an order, let us know if you would be willing to accept substitutions and what breeds in the notes section of the order. If you do want a substitution we will provide EITHER a refund for the cost of any chicks not available, or you will be next in line to have your order fulfilled.

If your baby chicks dies within 48 hours of you picking up please contact us to arrange for a replacement.

Cancellations up to 7 days before the estimated hatch date. A 15% cancellation fee will be applied to any cancellations and the remainder of funds paid will be returned. To cancel your order please send an email with your order number and the reason for the cancellation to greenhaven@greenhaven-farm.com.

The reason why we charge a cancellation fee is because when orders are paid for or booked they are taken off the market for sale and are marked sold. We could have a lost opportunity for a buyer if cancelled. Cancelled orders create bookkeeping and labor cost to process that cancelled order and along with postage or credit card fees to reprocess credits.

No returns of Live or Dead Poultry Allowed due to Biosecurity Measures set forth by the National Poultry Improvement Program (NPIP) & the Animal Plant & Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
